So... This Happened

(photograph via @trickholland)
This past weekend while shooting some sort of commercial for PlayStation, they gussied up Wrigley Field with all her flags, turned on all her lights, and at some point they flashed this message.

And we missed it!

Even though we spend a good part of each day around Wrigley Field we actually missed it when it briefly said World Series Champs. This, in a nutshell, is my greatest fear. You see, someday the Wrigley Marquee will read World Series Champs. Someday we will win it all. And when that day finally comes, I better be alive to see it.

Go Cubs Go (hopefully, sometime soon)

Seeing Red at Wrigley

Now I know Wrigley Field has evolved over time, but we sure had grown accustomed to the how she looked for many a year. You see, not too long ago the only thing Red you could see on the outside of the Stadium was the magnificent Red Marquee with her Red neon glowing at night.

Over the years a lot of signs on the inside have been painted bright Red, and last year they added a giant Red Toyota Sign. Well sir, the changes just keep on a comin'.

It chaps my hide to report that they have added bright Red neon over each of the ticket windows. (Lord knows, they want you to really know that they are OPEN and have plenty of tickets available). And they have also added some sort of e-lectronic message board. My grandson tells me they are LEDs and let me tell ya, they are about 10 times as bright as the glorious neon lit Marquee.

Lord help us.

God Bless America

I took this photograph on the night of September 11th, 2001.

That marquee summed up quite a bit of what we were thinking on that horrible day, and I reckon the same holds true for how we feel today.

Wrigley Field: Bear Down, Chicago Bears!

I must say - this here is pretty darn impressive: Wrigley Field showing her support for our beloved Bears. Chicago flags are waving in the snow blowing wind as the grand marquee tells the tale. Go Bears

The Marquee is Red Again

With much less fanfare - and surprisingly, without a corporate sponsorship attached - they are repainting the marquee to red.

Just as she belongs.

And Down Goes the Banners

Those player banners they put up for Opening Day are coming back down. The paper said at the time that they were only temporary, and I tell ya, I think it's a pretty good idea to get rid of em. If these current winning ways do not continue and the season heads south, chances are the Cubs are gonna trade some of those players on them giant banners. This way you avoid a situation where you have to look at a giant photo of the guy you just shipped out of town.

Looks like the Stadium is ready to host our rivals from the Lone Star State.

Banners At Wrigley Field

They have put up all eight of them player banners for opening day. It says here in the paper that it is temporary. If you can't tell - the players are Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster, Derrek Lee, Ted Lilly, Carlos Marmol, Aramis Ramirez and manager Lou Piniella.
