Two Dude's Epic Quest to Find a Beer After a Cubs Game

Because after you've drank beer for many, many hours - while watching the Cubs suck it up - the first thing you need after leaving Wrigley: another beer.

Tex and I found ourselves stumbling down Clark, literally down the middle of the street; looking for a bar, any bar without a line. But, unfortunately . . . the 20,000 other Cubs fans that just left Wrigley were looking for the same thing: another beer.

Clark St. - post-game
To add to the drama; both Tex and I really, really had to pee, and there was just no way we were going to survive a wait in a line. . . no matter how short it might be.

SOMEHOW we found a bar on the right just before Newport; no clue what the place was called. Thank God it had the three things we were looking for: no line, a pisser, and most importantly: another beer.

It was Epic, I tell you!
A shot from whatever bar we were at, post-game.

Robert Redford, huh?

The Chicago Cubs rolled out Hollywood star Robert Redford yesterday to throw out the opening day first pitch.

For some reason I keep reading that the reason they decided on Mr. Redford is because he played a baseball player in a movie once and that in that movie he hit a home run at Wrigley Field. Well let me set the facts straight here kiddies: Movies are not real. Robert Redford didn't play for the Cubs, and in the movie Wrigley Field was actually a different stadium in Buffalo, New York.

The REAL reason they picked Robert Redford is because he's in town to promote his new movie. That movie just so happens to be produced by The American Film Company. And that company just so happens to be owned by Joe Ricketts. And Joe Ricketts just so happens to be Cubs Owner, Tom Ricketts' dad (and the reason Tom and his family had the money to purchase Cubs in the first place)

Now that we got that straight - here are some photos of Mr. Redford. In case you were wondering, he did get the throw to the plate (after doing a fake pitch for some reason). In fact, he darn near threw it over Kerry Wood's head.

Oh, and the Cubs lost 6 -3

Good Night and Good Luck

Scoreboard Sunset
There's something special about the night prior to a Cubs season.

You see, we've all had an off-season to forget about last year; time to try and forget about all those seasons of the past.

Opening Day Eve isn't about that past garbage. It's a night to focus on the future. To let yourself imagine what could be.

To hope.

And to let yourself believe that this season - that this year - is the year.

Go Cubs.

We will see you at the ballpark tomorrow.

Wrigley Gets Hosed

Ah, that new ballpark smell!

Wrigley Field just got her annual Pre-Opening Day scrub down. The bricks are clean enough to eat off of (for at least one day). I WOULD NOT try it on Friday afternoon.

I hope they took these power scrubbers to the bathrooms and gave the troughs a good blast.

Around Wrigley Field - Opening Day

I just got back from my daily stroll around the ballpark.
But today - is Opening Day - so there is a spring in my step.
Who knows, maybe this is the year we finally win again.

Around Wrigley Field - Bob and Len

I was taking some photographs around the ballpark this Opening Day morning. I was trying to take a nice picture of this here red concrete mixer when two fellas got in the way of my shot. My grandson Jeremy tells me that these two are in fact the television reporters for the Cubs on Channel 9. I wouldn't know - I only listen to the radio.

Opening Day

Ahh! Spring is here again. Opening day always gives me a warm and tingly feeling. Kind of like when I wet in my depends. If we win one today thats great, but I have learned over the past 100 years not to get my hopes up. So drink as many barly pops as you can today and punch the mai-tai guy in the nuts if you see him. GO CUBS!!!!!!

Good Mornin Opening Day

The sun is up for Opening Day 2010

Wrigley Field Flags

I'm trying to think if there is anything else left to be done. The team flags are up around perimeter. It is starting to look like baseball season again around here.

A Circus In Right Field

It looks like they are throwing up some sort of circus tents next to that tavern they threw up a year back.

Banners At Wrigley Field

They have put up all eight of them player banners for opening day. It says here in the paper that it is temporary. If you can't tell - the players are Alfonso Soriano, Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster, Derrek Lee, Ted Lilly, Carlos Marmol, Aramis Ramirez and manager Lou Piniella.

Crazies On The Rooftops

I went for a walk and noticed two things across from the ballpark. For one - they have updated the old Torco billboard for next week. It says it is nice of Milwaukee to bring an opener. But what is more peculiar than that - because frankly I do not understand that advertisement - what is more peculiar is that there are a bunch of people up on that there rooftop watching an empty Wrigley Field. The game is in Atlanta and I'm quite certain you cannot see Atlanta from up there.

Opening Day Is On The Way!

It is sunny and 69 degrees! The lovely ladies cruising by Wrigley have traded in their coats and sweaters for some tight tees!!! Dude, I cannot wait til opening day.

Here are two definite signs that we are only a few days away!
