Sometime overnight, the base of Harry Caray's statue was - as the kids call it - tagged. It looks to be the work of idiot White Sox fans, but I can't make out what the bottom word is.
I'll just add this to the list I've got going for why they never should've moved this statue in the first place.
It is indeed shameful that inebriated, illiterate Cubs fans would deface Harry's monument with the senseless epithet "Sox Dies."
ReplyDeleteI hope they had a good laugh on their way back to Northbrook.
That statue needs to be on Clark or Addison, so it can be watched all the time, moving it to that area was a big mistake,
ReplyDeleteThe statue scares women, children, and me. It should be draped.
ReplyDeleteMr Whitesoxski: It looks more like Sox Bies to me.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what BIES means.
Cub fans are so going to try and use this agenst Sox fans. I think its trying to say sox bites. This is just sad for both cubs and sox fans.
ReplyDeleteIt's obvious it's a Cubs fan as "bies" isn't even a word. They should've put a bag over Caray's head while they were at it, as that's one damned ugly statue.
ReplyDeleteThe b is a d or it supposed to be so whoever tagged this has the brain function of a 3rd grader who was never taught RESPECT for other people's property.Teach it at home and it might not reach the streets parents, find the kid who did this and make him clean it up ! PHLASH
ReplyDeleteI prefer to think that it says "Sox Bites," which is, of course, completely true.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lefthander to me.
ReplyDeleteA mind is a terible think to waste. Make the person clean it up, pay a fine, do community service, and make them get their GED.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for allowing me use of your photo for my story. Mighty neighborly of you!
ReplyDeleteLove your site.

The bottom word is probably the Sox fans tag. At least the person spelled Sox right.
ReplyDeleteIdiot Flubs, I mean Cubs, fans obviously did this...typical white/frat boy wanna-be antics. Probably on their way home from a "reggae" bar in boystown a.k.a. Wrigleyville.
ReplyDeleteim pretty sure it says blES(BLES). ive seen it before, written around chicago. im glad the sox fan didnt write on harry carey.. i think i would be more upset if that was the case!! why is there no security cams set up to catch the vandalism !!
ReplyDeleteWow, that statue is hideous. Please, someone throw it away. Besides, Jack Brickhouse was better than that drunken loudmouth.
ReplyDeleteAt least they tagged the side with the crack in it that is already in need of repair.
ReplyDeleteYou guys aren't seriously trying to read the second word, are you? It's the tag name, which doesn't even necessarily consist of letters. Where do you live??
