Just over one year ago, us Cubs fans lost Ron Santo.
Today, Ronnie was voted into the baseball Hall of Fame - an honor he surely deserved and one that should've happened before he passed. They say it's better things happen late than never at all, but this here is still a damn shame.
There are two things Ron Santo never lived to see: the Hall of Fame and his beloved Cubs winning the World Series. I sure hope to heck I see both while still on God's green earth. Not much use for thing happening after you pass.

Ron Santo Statue Sneak Peek
The Old Cub will forever stand at Wrigley Field...
The dedication ceremony will be held before Wednesday's game against the Washington Nationals at 5:30 pm
A few workers have installed a nice banner and what looks to be a dandy statue for our old pal, Ron Santo, who passed last December. Ernie and Billy already have have their statues - both with the Cubs greats up to bat. But Ronnie is captured in this here statue playing defense - forever frozen firing the ball across the diamond from third.

Some Inside Scoop Into Ron Santo's Statue
The late Ron Santo's statue will be dedicated outside of his beloved Wrigley Field on August 10th, 2011. The Cubs haven't said too much about the statue, but we believe we have at least found out where Ron's likeness will go.
You see, while "roadies" were hard at work turning Wrigley Field into a rock-n-roll stadium for this week's Paul McCartney show, a few Cubs folks were also hard at working pouring concrete. Now that the post-concert dust has settled, there is a statue sized square of concrete right near the Billy Williams statue. The one that went in just this last year.
One would suppose that Ron Santo's statue will takes its place right here, right next to his old buddy.

Wrigley Remembers Ron Santo
The Cubs had a dandy tribute to Ronnie Santo before the Opener, with a moment of silence for old number 10, who passed in December. They followed that up by letting Ronnie's two kids sing the 7th inning stretch.
This season the Cubs are gonna be wearing a # 10 patch on their jersey's and on August 10th they are going to unveil a new statue for our old pal.
We miss you Ronnie.

Wrigley Field Drive GoodBye

AP Photo/Warren Wimmer
Fans of all ages gathered outside the Friendly Confines this afternoon to watch Ron Santo drive by for the final time. I wish I had the words handy to express the sorrow we here at this blog are feeling today. Ronnie was such a happy guy, and losing him - well sir - it just makes us truly sad.
Only thing that made us feel a bit better was to get on the computer and donate to Ronnie's cause. If you would like to help out, please visit www.jdrfillinois.org and donate $10 for our number 10.
I know he'd appreciate it.

Wrigley Turned Into A Santo Shrine
I'd say it is only fitting that the same place Ronnie Santo thought of as a shrine became a makeshift shrine to him following his passing.

Remembering #10 At Wrigley Field
Just a few photographs from around The Stadium on this sad, sad day.
I think it is safe to say that Ron Santo was an even bigger fan of Wrigley Field than we are. At numerous occasions - on the air, I have heard him recount the first time he walked onto the field in 1960 alongside Ernie Banks. He said there was a feeling of electricity that he'd never had - that it was like walking on air.
We here know just exactly what old #10 was talking about. And we are going to miss hearing his voice. And we are going to miss hearing him retell that story.

Ron Santo Week At Wrigley Field
This last week marked the 50th anniversary of Ron Santo's Major League debut for the Chicago Cubs. To pay tribute to good ol' number 10, they flew only white flags around the park that read: "Santo 50", offered some bleacher tickets at $10 a pop, and let Mr. Santo sing the stretch.
Then the Cubs promptly thanked Ron for his service to the organization by only winning 2 of 7 games on the homestand.
This included defeats of 12-0 and 14-3.
I have a bad feeling that this season is going to kill the both of us.
