Mike Quade Is The Man

(Image "borrowed" from www.thecubsbrickyard.com)

Mike Quade is no longer just the interim manager of the Chicago Cubs. In a few hours he will be officially named as the real deal manager. We have already posted a few gems about the new guy: Who's This Mike Quade? , The Cubs Skipper Search, and my personal favorite: Don't Make Mike Quade Angry!

We here at The Wrigley Blog wish him success. His success means Cubs success and Cubs success means pleasure for us and all of those Cubbie fans around the world.

Go get 'em Coach err Manager Q!

Cubs Skipper Search - Ignorance vs Incompetence

(image from http://www.mycubstoday.com)

I wouldn't say I'm a big fan of the Cubs new owner or their old General Manager. I'd say that the problem with Tom Ricketts is: He doesn't know what he is doing, and worse yet, he think Jim Hendry does.

And I believe this search for a new skipper is a good example of this battle between ignorance and incompetence.

I read a pretty interesting article this morning over at fanpeeps.com that talked about this very thing. The gentleman there argued that the skipper search has come down to Ricketts' choice: Ryne Sandberg vs Hendry' pick: Mike Quade. Mr. Ricketts did promise to that it was ultimately the decision of the General Manager, but that sounds to me like some sorta business-world jargon to cover his rear in case the decision goes south.

I guess my money would be on Quade at this point. Ricketts has to know that this is Hendry's last big decision as GM. If this new manager doesn't lead the Cubs to the promised land, somebody's going to have to take the fall. And you can't make Hendry the scapegoat if you take the decision out of his hands.

Well, actually Ricketts can and will make Hendry the scapegoat no matter what, but I'd still put a nickel on Quade.

Don't Make Mike Quade Angry

You wouldn't like him when he's angry!

I don't think we've seen this dude get upset yet. He seems very even keeled or perhaps he seems a bit TOO even keeled. He's had a pretty solid start, but I'd throw down some cash, betting that doesn't last.

The way I see it, there are 1 of 2 options that'll go down: Either 1). The Cubbies suck it up the rest of the year and they give Quade the boot; or B) They play decent and they still give the dude the boot.

Either way... I predict some manager anger up in here. At least I hope so.

BTW: special thanks to twitter friend @hey_sue for pointing out the other day that Mike Quade kind of looks like Skeletor. LOL!

Who's This Mike Quade?

Grandpa and the boys put me in charge of finding out the 411 on the Cubbies new manager: Mike Quade.

Wikipedia, here I come.

This was Mike Quade's fourth season as the Cubbie third base coach. As of Monday he is the 51st manager in Cubs history.

Before that he has been a first base coach for the A's and a Minor League manager for the Iowa Cubs, Vancouver Canadians (where they won the AAA World Series), Águilas Cibaeñas (where they won the Caribbean World Series), and the West Michigan Whitecaps (league champs). He was Manager of the Year with the Harrisburg Senators and Ottawa Lynx, and also managed the Rockford Expos, Scranton Red Barrons, Huntsville Stars and the Edmonton Trappers. Man, the dude has been around the block.

He had a 1,213-1,165 record as a Minor League manager.

Jim Hendry must like him, because he interviewed Quade for the Cubs manager spot in '06.

He is from Evanston, IL

He is 53.

And, it appears, that he doesn't have eyebrows.
From what I can tell, his entire head is hairless... kinda weird.

UPDATE: Turns out the dude has something called alopecia areata.. I appologize
